BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women’s Tennis team defeated the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 6-1 on Saturday at the Gillett Wellness Center in Bemidji, Minn. They followed this up with a decisive 7-0 victory over the University of Minnesota Morris later in the day. Bemidji State secured the doubles point in both matches with victories across all three pairs and clinched five of the six singles matches against UW-River Falls, dropping only one match at the No. 6 position, while achieving straight-set victories in all six singles matches against Minnesota Morris.
Against UW-River Falls, Mia Leshem posted a win at No. 1 singles and added a victory in No. 1 doubles. Paula Garcia Acebal recorded a win at No. 2 singles and contributed to a win at No. 2 doubles. Ana Lucia Ibanez collected a win at No. 5 singles and secured a win at No. 3 doubles. Marla Davies added a win at No. 3 singles and a victory in No. 1 doubles. In the matchup against Minnesota Morris, Marla Davies triumphed at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory, while Ana Lucia Ibanez added a win at No. 2 singles, bolstering the team’s success. Lauren Rutten finished with a win in both No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles. Jalyn Halverson also showcased versatility, winning both No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
Bemidji State dominated the doubles competition in both matches, taking the doubles point with decisive victories. Against UW-River Falls, Davies and Leshem secured a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles, while Garcia Acebal and Lauren Rutten mirrored this performance with a 6-0 finish at No. 2 doubles. Ibanez and Julia Lindseth completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles. In the match against Minnesota Morris, Garcia Acebal and Rutten completed a 6-0 sweep at No. 1 doubles, while Julia Lindseth and Reagan Schwartzer won 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. Halverson and Britney Schommer capped off the doubles matches with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play against UW-River Falls, Leshem triumphed at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 result.
