Estée Lauder has teamed up with Belgian fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg to launch a limited edition beauty range.

The InCharge Collection is centred on a new fragrance, InCharge Essence d’Eau (US$85), and also features a Multi-Use Sculpting Blush Stick ($35) and Glossy Lip Oil Trio ($45).

Furstenberg, best known for creating the jersey wrap dress in 1974 and founding fashion brand DVF, is a long-term friend of the US beauty giant’s namesake co-founder, Estée Lauder.

The collaboration serves as a “[true] meeting of icons”, an Estée Lauder spokesperson told Cosmetics Business.

“Diane von Furstenberg first met Estée Lauder in the early 1970s, when Diane had just arrived in New York and started her business,” the spokesperson added.

“Reminding her of a younger version of herself, Estée Lauder became somewhat of a mentor to Diane.”

The culmination of this friendship has resulted in the InCharge collection, which allowed Furstenberg to create her vision for a “breakthrough” water-based fragrance.

The scent is formulated without drying alcohols, which the Estée Lauder brand claims makes it feel “soft, weightless and hydrating” on the skin.

Amber-floral essence, InCharge Essence d’Eau, contains top notes of saffron oil, mimosa absolute and honeysuckle.

Complementing this are middle notes of incense, rose oil, violet accord and orris concrete, which are set against a base of benzoin resin, incense wood, musk and kyphi accord.

The Charge Glossy Lip Oil Collection, meanwhile, is a trio of lightweight, conditioning lip oil treatments available in three shades: Dusk Pink, Crystal and Salt Pink.

These have been formulated with a blend of oils, including jojoba, sunflower and apricot seed, which are said to hydrate lips for up to eight hours.

Rounding off the collection is the InCharge Multi-Use Blush Stick, a sculpting blush stick in shade Pink Me – which contains a peach undertone.

All of the products are housed in packaging featuring Furstenberg’s signature DVF ‘Cloud Patch’ print design, a graphic exaggeration of a cloud pattern, which was first introduced in the DVF Spring 2011 collection.

The Estée Lauder spokesperson added: “The packaging and product design together create a visual language of empowerment, reminding women that beauty is dynamic and ever-evolving, just like the women who inspire it.”

Although Estée Lauder could not confirm future additions to the collection, the spokesperson said the brand is “excited to focus on this collaboration”.

The spokesperson continued: “It builds on our shared commitment to empower and inspire women, and extends the message of Diane’s InCharge movement: to own one’s story and embrace every facet of self.

“The collaboration celebrates the brilliance and boldness of women who are redefining leadership, beauty and legacy for the next generation.”

The collection is available for a limited time beginning 2 March at retail giant Bloomingdale’s and on esteelauder.com.
