Insufficient Omega 3 intake can lead to a range of health problems(Image: Getty Images)
A registered nutritionist has highlighted a nutrient that, if lacking in your diet, can lead to various health issues, including fatigue, joint pain, insomnia, and skin problems such as acne. Fortunately, there’s a supplement that may help.
The Vegan Omega 3 (1,000mg) softgels are available from Dr Vegan for £21.99 for a single pouch. For better value, shoppers can opt for a subscription: three pouches every 90 days currently cost £53.09, down from £65.97 — working out at roughly 59p per day. Even better, using the code ‘VOM3’ gives an extra 15% off, reducing the price to £18.69 for a single pouch or £45.13 for the 90-day subscription, making now a particularly good time to invest in this supplement.
Ariella Kaur Maan, a registered nutritionist and nutritional therapy practitioner who heads up the Practitioner Programme at Dr Vegan, has discussed the advantages of Omega 3 and the problems associated with insufficient intake. She explained: “A deficiency in Omega 3 can lead to fatigue, joint aches, insomnia, difficulty concentrating, acne and skin conditions, weak hair and nails, and other issues.
“The body cannot make Omega 3 fats and therefore relies on getting it from your diet or supplements. There are three types of Omega 3 fats – DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and ALA (alpha linolenic acids). It is very hard to gain sufficient EPA and DHA every day if you don’t eat fish or a consistent, healthy balanced diet,” reports the Mirror.

They are said to support brain, heart and vision health
Discussing the advantages, she went on to say: “There are many benefits of older people increasing their Omega 3 intake, in particular:
Arthritis: There are lots of studies showing the benefits of Omega 3 for people who have osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, including an improvement in symptoms of stiffness and an increase in mobility.Heart health: Omega 3 is beneficial for heart health by balancing the levels of other fats in the blood, helping to maintain good cholesterol levels, and reducing the development of arterial plaques. Omega 3 fats may also lower the risk of heart attacks.Brain function: Our brain has the highest fat content in our body – 70% of our brain is made up of fat. Omega 3 ‘DHA’ is needed for the brain structure, and omega 3 ‘EPA’ is needed for communication between brain cells. Studies show omega 3 fats also support healthy moods, memory and cognition. DR.VEGAN’s Omega 3 contains 1,000mg Omega 3, providing the optimal levels of DHA (300mg) and EPA (150mg).”

The Dr Vegan softgels claim to promote healthy brain function, cardiovascular health and vision through their high-strength vegan Omega 3 formula. According to the manufacturer, the supplement provides optimal levels of DHA and EPA, two essential Omega 3 fatty acids, sustainably derived from plant algae whilst protecting marine ecosystems.
Additionally, the softgels are free from any fishy odour or aftertaste, making them simple to take. According to the website, each serving contains 1,000mg of algae oil, delivering 550mg of Omega 3, 300mg DHA and 150mg EPA. The softgels are reportedly ‘free of toxins and pollutants found in fish oil’ and, enriched with vitamin E, have been formulated to promote ‘optimal health’.
The website suggests that benefits may become apparent anywhere from one week to up to three months. For the Vegan Omega 3 (1,000mg) softgels, customers should take two capsules daily, which can be consumed with or without meals.
According to the manufacturer, they contain no added sugar, sweeteners, gluten, wheat, soya, lactose, dairy, artificial flavours, colours or preservatives.
Should these prove unsuitable, alternative products are available. Holland and Barrett, for instance, stocks Equazen 360 Capsules priced at £54.35. These reportedly contain ‘a precise blend’ of PUFAs: Omega-3 EPA and DHA derived from fish oil, alongside Omega-6 GLA sourced from Primrose oil.
Alternatively, for a more budget-friendly option, Boots offers its own Everyday Omega 3 Fish Oil 1,000mg – 30 Capsules for £4.20. Appropriate for adults and children from 12 years upwards, these contain no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, with the recommended dosage being one capsule daily taken with plenty of water, according to the website.

Returning to Dr Vegan’s Vegan Omega 3 (1,000mg) softgels, customers have shared overwhelmingly favourable feedback. On Trustpilot, the company has achieved an average rating of 4.6 out of five stars based on over 6,000 reviews, earning it an ‘Excellent’ overall score.
One customer, Stephanie, commented: “Excellent, great results and no fishy aftertaste.” Meanwhile, Jasmine noted: “Noticeably less joint discomfort after a week’s worth of use.”
Other customers also shared their thoughts, with Mike Harrison commenting: “It’s good for my brain health. The subscription service means I don’t run out. Price is competitive. One teensy moan is that the capsules are slightly tacky, and tend to stick to my pill case. But if you don’t use a pill case, that won’t bother you!”.
On the whole, most customers were satisfied with their purchase. Another shopper, Mandy Stewart, remarked: “Really helps me and my joints, as I love to regularly work out at the gym. At 54 I’ve really noticed the difference since taking them.”
