Kai Havertz is understood to be match fit for Arsenal’s trip to Brighton, which is significant for the Gunners given his record against the Seagulls.

In Mikel Arteta’s squad fitness update ahead of Brighton, the manager revealed that the club were going to ‘wait and see’ what role Havertz could play.

Even though the German returned to action against Chelsea just three days ago, it was unsurprising to hear the update, as Arsenal are managing Havertz’s injury return carefully.

Brighton won’t be an easy opponent, which is why the latest update on the 26-year-old’s fitness is a considerable boost for Wednesday night’s visitors.

Trusted Arsenal insider Hand of Arsenal revealed on X that Havertz is ‘match fit and will travel’ with the squad to the Amex, with the same applying to Declan Rice.

It’s also noted that a final decision on the official matchday squad will be made today.

Havertz makes those around him play better, so having him back in any capacity is always a boost, but particularly against Brighton.

Since the 2022/23 season, the German has scored in every Premier League match that he’s played against Brighton, with his form carrying over from Chelsea to Arsenal.

Agree or disagree: Kai Havertz has the keys to finally unlock Arsenal’s attack

Having played the Seagulls seven times in his Premier League career, Havertz has recorded five goal contributions, scoring four and assisting one.

Injury and illness have seen the forward miss the previous three games Arsenal have played against Brighton, so he’ll be eager to return on Wednesday night if his injury permits him to.

Arsenal’s midfield selection dilemma ahead of Brighton clash

If Havertz is match fit and ready to start at the Amex, then he should, as his quality has been sorely missed this season.

Arteta certainly has a tough decision to make in midfield, as Rice and Martin Odegaard are also returning from injury concerns, plus the ongoing concern about Eberechi Eze’s performances against any team but Tottenham.

Given how stale Arsenal were going forward against Chelsea, a refresh in the creative zones is needed, but given the team news, it’s unclear who will be the one to orchestrate the attack.

It’ll be a tough call to decide between Odegaard, Havertz, Eze, fitness permitted, with additional concern about Rice’s fitness and Martin Zubimendi’s overhaul of minutes.
