The IGAD Food Security & Nutrition Strategy (2025-2034) is structured into nine sections and annexes, including seven country reports, in addition to the log frame, action plan and references.

Section one gives an account of the operational terms and an overview of the IGAD, the response strategy, the focus, objectives, and methods used. The IGAD region, including Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda, is facing increasing challenges from climate change, conflict, economic shocks, pests, and diseases, posing risks to its population’s livelihoods and food and nutrition security. IGAD, with support from the World Bank, has signed a seven-year financing agreement to implement a project titled “Food Systems Resilience Program for Eastern and Southern Africa Phase 1 (FSRP),” aiming to reduce the number of food insecure people in the region. The 2020-2022, IGAD regional food security and nutrition response strategy aimed to reduce food insecurity and malnutrition caused by disasters like desert locust invasion, COVID-19, and floods. Key interventions included regional emergency response, coordination, preparedness, and recovery. Key areas included humanitarian assistance, trade promotion, and capacity enhancement for regional preparedness and response.
