MALDEN, MA — A new fitness gym officially arrived in the city this month.

X-Step Fitness launched with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, March 3 at 258 Highland Ave. Mayor Gary Christenson, State Rep. Steve Ultrino, and members of the Malden Chamber of Commerce led the event in which they toured the facility, lifted weights, and tested some of its other training and conditioning equipment.

X-Step was founded by Certified Personal Trainer and Performance Enhancement Specialist Henry Tan. Tan has spent the past five years working with clients of all ages helping them with weight loss, muscle gain, sports performance, injury rehabilitation, and strength development. Before starting his own business, he worked as a trainer and eventually a fitness manager at Blink Fitness in nearby Medford. He said he found a passion in this field after being considered “weak” in school and being born with a physical condition.

“Gaining muscle felt impossible, and being born with pectus excavatum made it even harder to feel confident in my body. Coming from a family that didn’t support weight training, I had to teach myself everything about exercise and nutrition through years of trial and error,” Tan said in a statement. “Through that process, I discovered that true progress requires a whole-body approach.”

The business offers both one-on-one personal training as well as group training sessions and online coaching. It is now open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

“Whether you’re stepping into the gym for the first time, recovering from an injury, or chasing peak performance, I’m here to help you achieve results that last,” Tan said.
