RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is now showing at the Altria Theater as part of the Broadway in Richmond season.

From now until Sunday you can check out the musical.

The production is based on the classic 1991 animated film and follows a young woman who finds herself trapped in an enchanted castle with a cursed beast.

The show features new sets and costumes, along with songs from the Oscar-winning, Tony-nominated score — including “Be Our Guest” and “Beauty and the Beast,” made popular by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson.

Kyra Belle Johnson plays the role of Belle.

Johnson said she is honored to bring the production back to the stage as Disney celebrates 30 years of the show, which opened on Broadway in 1994.

“It’s been so amazing to be a part of this legacy because it’s something that the company is so proud of,” Johnson said. “This show met me in a time of my life where I was really ready for it. I think Belle represents a very strong woman in this world. She speaks up for herself. She doesn’t let people tell her how she is supposed to present in the world.”

Tickets start at $72, with prices varying by seat location.

Doors open one hour before showtime.
