Staying in shape can feel like a full-time job, and a new Arkansas nonprofit is making sure the people who help others do it get their moment in the spotlight.
Riley Hill, founder of the Arkansas Fitness Professionals Hall of Fame, has launched the nonprofit to recognize fitness professionals across the state. Hill said the idea was inspired in part by a personal connection: her late father-in-law was inducted into the Arkansas Softball Hall of Fame.
Hill, who has worked in fitness for about nine years, said she wanted to honor the trainers and instructors who helped her along the way and who continue to make a difference for others.
“Our mission is to honor these, these professionals, trainers and instructors, that are keeping Arkansans healthy.”
The group’s inaugural awards banquet is set for next Thursday, March 12, at Chenal Country Club. Hill said the evening will include dinner and dessert, a silent auction, a guest speaker — David Bazzel — and award presentations.
For those looking for ways to get involved with the hall of fame, Hill says that there are many ways to get involved.
“We always are accepting nominations, and we plan on doing this every year. So people can nominate at any time. Of course, local businesses can get involved and become a sponsor, or things like that, or volunteer. We’re always looking for volunteers.”
This year’s class includes 10 inductees, Hill said, including five posthumous awards. Friends and family members will accept those honors on behalf of the inductees.
“I mean, I think really just the same reason, as, you know, when that I stated before, it’s just, I just think it’s so special, and I think it’s just because they’re gone, you know, doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be appreciated.”
Hill said the organization plans to make the Hall of Fame an annual tradition and is accepting nominations at any time.
Tickets for the banquet are available on their website.
