The US Food and Drug Administration is holding a public meeting to gather feedback on dietary ingredient categories, including proteins, enzymes and microbes.
The meeting, scheduled for March 27, 2026, is titled “Exploring the Scope of Dietary Supplement Ingredients.”
The FDA said it will help inform the agency of its next steps “regarding the meaning of the dietary ingredient categories defined in the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994.”
During this event, there will be presentations to provide background on the following topics:
The scope of the phrase “dietary substance for use by man to supplement the diet by increasing the total dietary intake” as used in DSHEA
New methodologies to produce existing dietary ingredients
Specific ingredient types, including proteins, enzymes and microbials.
Participants in the meeting will be able to give feedback during the session and submit comments for the agency’s review.
