Soil Testing and Balanced Nutrition Key as Farmers Seek Fertility Solutions at Commodity Classic
Cyndi Young interviews Reid Abbott with AgroLiquid at 2026 Commodity Classic
Farmers attending Commodity Classic were highly engaged on the trade show floor, asking questions and searching for practical solutions to help manage tight margins.
Reid Abbott, Great Plains Regional Agronomist for AgroLiquid, says the current ag economy is prompting many growers to rethink how they approach crop nutrition. That could include adjusting application methods, adopting new technologies, or expanding the range of nutrients used to ensure a more balanced fertility program.
Abbott tells Brownfield the process begins with a soil test. Understanding base fertility levels helps farmers determine what nutrients are already available in their fields and where adjustments are needed to optimize crop performance.
In a challenging economic environment, Abbott says new fertilizer technologies can also improve efficiency. Rather than simply increasing fertilizer spending, growers are reallocating some of those dollars to focus on balanced nutrition and strategies that help manage risk while maintaining productivity.
