SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation’s annual Fit Fest brought free fitness, health and community resources to the Southern Hills Community Center, welcoming veterans, families and residents looking to engage with local wellness offerings.
Lead Superintendent Shalon Lewis said the goal is to connect neighbors while making wellness accessible in one location.
“It’s just an event to bring the community together as a whole,” Lewis said. “We wanted to bring fitness as well as resources within one area, within one community.”
Activities and resources on site
Participants took part in activities including a stroll in the park, line dancing and “belly basics,” while also learning about nutrition and connecting with local support services. Organizers said the event is designed to promote healthy habits that extend beyond the gym.
