David Protein Bars may be lying.

A legal dispute involving David Protein bars has spilled onto social media, where customers are now sharing their reactions to the controversy. After a class-action lawsuit raised questions about whether the nutrition labels on the popular snack are accurate, some fans of the product have begun posting TikTok videos about the issue.

As reported by BroBible, one of those videos has attracted significant attention online. The clip was posted by TikTok creator Maya Cain, who goes by @babytunechii, and has already been viewed more than 1 million times. In the video, Cain talks about how frequently she eats the bars and how surprised she felt after hearing about the allegations in the lawsuit.

During the video, she explains that the product has been a regular part of her routine. “I love David protein bars,” she says. “I have them on a subscribe and save. They come to my apartment every two weeks.” Cain continues by explaining just how often she eats them. “OK, 12 bars every two weeks. That’s a lot of bars. I eat a bar a day. I love them,” she says.

Cain Is Not Happy With The Lies

Her tone changes as she explains what prompted her to make the video. According to Cain, she had just learned about the legal complaint involving the brand’s nutrition labeling. In her clip, she shares what she believes the lawsuit claims about the product.“Today I just found out that they’ve been lying about the nutrition labels,” she says. “80% more fat. 80% more calories.”

She finishes the video by joking that she plans to take part in the legal action. “I will be joining the class-action lawsuit.” Part of Cain’s reaction also references a moment from the movie Mean Girls. In that film, the character Regina George is tricked into eating special snack bars that are secretly designed to make her gain weight, even though she believes they are supposed to help her lose it.

Cain suggested the situation made her feel like she had been “Regina Georged,” a comparison that many other social media users have also been making while discussing the lawsuit. The legal complaint that sparked the discussion concerns the nutritional claims on the packaging of David Protein bars. According to CBS News reporting, the lawsuit accuses the company of inaccurately representing the number of calories and the amount of fat the bars actually contain.

Testing referenced in the complaint reportedly suggests the bars could contain significantly more calories and fat than customers are told. The lawsuit claims that the true calorie count could be 83 percent higher than what appears on the label. It also alleges that the fat content could be about 400 percent greater than the listed amount.

Those numbers would represent a major discrepancy. The Food and Drug Administration allows some variation between labeled and actual nutrition values, but the acceptable margin is limited. Under current regulations, the difference is generally permitted to be within a 20 percent range.

At the moment, the nutrition label on David Protein bars lists 150 calories, 28 grams of protein, and zero grams of sugar. Despite the allegations in the lawsuit, the company and one of its partners have strongly defended the labeling.
