SHREVEPORT, La. – The Shreveport Chapter of The Links, Incorporated will host its Annual Black Family Wellness Expo on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at J.S. Clark Academy on Hearne Avenue in Shreveport.

The event is free and open to the public and will offer a variety of health screenings performed by physicians and other medical professionals. Available screenings include cancer checks, blood pressure testing, mammograms, cholesterol checks, diabetes screenings and memory testing.

Organizers say the goal is to provide families with access to important health resources while creating a welcoming, family-friendly environment.

In addition to health services, the expo will feature games, a bounce house, line dancing, prizes and refreshments. Community partners will also provide information on topics like estate planning and other wellness resources.

More than 20 organizations, including medical, educational, civic and public service groups, are partnering to support the event.

A special guest will also appear at the expo. Kendall Rae Johnson, a 10-year-old from Atlanta who is the youngest USDA-certified farmer in the United States, is scheduled to attend.

Organizers encourage families to attend and take advantage of the free screenings and community resources available throughout the event.
