“Our goal is simple but powerful: to save lives through education, access, and community support,” said Patricia Kendrick Robinson, MD, President of the Selma (AL) Chapter. “Through health workshops, free screenings and local support groups, we empower families to take control of their well-being and be proactive about their health. When families have the knowledge and resources they need, they are better equipped to take control of their health and make informed choices for themselves and their loved ones.”
In addition to screenings, the expo will offer interactive demonstrations, nutrition and fitness sessions, mental health resources and activities for children and teens. Local organizations and partners will also participate, ensuring that attendees leave with connections to ongoing services—not just one-day support. Organizations and supporters include Edmundite Missions, UAB’s Live HealthSmart Alabama, Dental Screening-Rural Health Medical Program, City Block Wellness, Marcus Williams Financial Advisor, National Council of Negro Women, Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc, Mead Johnson, Alabama Public Health, Alabama Cooperative Extension Agency, Wallace Community College-Nursing, Vaughan Medical Center, Farmer’s Market, Happiness Nutrition 27, Lead-safe Selma Healthy Homes, Selma Air, Black Belt Community Foundation-WIC, Selma Truth and Reconciliation Center, Sherika Nicole’s Zumba, Serenity Massage and Bodywork and Legacy of Hope.
The event reflects The Links, Inc.’s long-standing commitment to advancing health equity, particularly in areas where chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and kidney disease disproportionately impact African American families. By bringing health and wellness education directly into the community, the Selma Chapter continues to bridge gaps in access and awareness.
The Black Family Wellness Expo is free and open to all members of the public, and all families are encouraged to attend.
