‘For sale’ signs could be going up soon
A dozen acres of land including a wellness center owned by the Benedictine Sisters of Boerne is expected to be on the market soon, according to a letter from the ministry.
An undated missive to members of the monastery’s Health and Wholeness Center from Sister Bernadine Reyes said the nuns “have engaged in longterm planning for many years” and “have reached a point in our plan where we are takins steps toward divesting … 12 acres of our property here on the hill” at 216 W. Highlands Drive.
Surveyors came to the property Tuesday, according to the Benedictine Sisters communications department.
The 12 acres most likely will include the Health and Wholeness Center, which opened in 1990 and includes a Junior Olympic size pool for water exercise classes and lap swimming, with regulated temperatures.
“We have surveyors coming and there will be some ‘for sale’ signs that you will see on the grounds along Highland Drive,” Reyes wrote. “Our hope would be to find individuals or an organization who would be good stewards of the property.”

The center “has been a place where members of the community come together to stay active, support one another and build meaningful friendships,” the letter said.
The Center’s volunteers and participants, ages 50 and older, have “grown into a close-knit and caring community, and that spirit is something we all deeply value.”
As soon as the land survey is completed, more information will become available, the communications department said.
The Benedictine Sisters of Boerne website said the success of the Health and Wholeness Center “is due in part to its philosophy for volunteerism which embraces the theme of ‘Seniors Serving Seniors.’” As many as 30 members volunteer during the year at the center in various capacities, including program leadership and grounds beautification.
