Local pet owners can learn more about how to keep their animals happy and healthy by joining a conversation on pet wellness and nutrition this weekend.
From 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Shine Pet Food will host its inaugural pet wellness event inside its Boulder store at 2795 Iris Ave. Pet health experts, including Boulder veterinarian Hatley McMicking, will participate in a panel discussion about how to choose the right food for pets and how owners can bolster the overall wellness of their animals.
Sandy Bosben, the founder of Shine Pet Food, said the conversation is open to anyone who wants to know more about supporting the long-term health of dogs and cats. The panelists and Bosben will take pet health questions from guests during the event, which is free and pet-friendly.
“It can help clarify a lot of questions that are floating around and that people have about pet nutrition,” Bosben said. “To be able to ask experts specific questions about nutrition, and learn the actual facts about how nutrition affects your dog’s overall health and longevity, will greatly benefit anybody who’s interested in attending.”
Boulder is home to one of only two brick-and-mortar Shine Pet Food stores in the world. The company was founded by Bosben in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where Shine’s other store is located and where all Shine products are made. Shine has had a store in Boulder for over a decade.
Bosben said this weekend’s event will be the first of many pet wellness seminars that Shine will host in Boulder.
The Shine Pet Food store in Boulder is stocked with raw ingredients, treats and toys for dogs and cats. Sarah Amorese, manager of Shine’s Boulder store, said she hopes the event will be an opportunity for local pet parents to get their nutrition questions answered.
“That’s our thing — education,” Amorese said. “We’re going even stronger on that here in Boulder because we want to be a part of this journey toward pet wellness.”
