THE Constitutional Court has dismissed former Lumezi MP Munir Zulu’s petition for lack of merit in a matter where he was challenging his prosecution and conviction for criminal libel. The court ruled that his statements, made outside the National Assembly to the media, are not protected by parliamentary immunity under Article 76(1) of the Constitution. Earlier, Zulu was sentenced to one year in prison for making defamatory remarks against Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane, Infrastructure Minister Charles Milupi and former RDA Board Chairperson Mulchand Kuntawala. Zulu has served his sentence and was recently released.
