The Drew Wellness Center pool will close April 13 for renovations, with upgrades expected to take about eight weeks.
COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Drew Wellness Center pool will temporarily close next month as the city begins a series of renovations aimed at improving the facility.
The closure is set to begin April 13, allowing crews to drain the pool and complete deck cleaning and clearance. During that time, overhead lighting in the pool area will also be replaced.
Full construction is scheduled to begin April 15. Planned upgrades include a complete pool chip-out and re-plaster, pool deck resurfacing, and tile replacement.
The renovation project is expected to take about eight weeks to complete.
During the closure, the pool area, along with associated locker rooms and showers, will be unavailable. The remainder of the Drew Wellness Center will stay open to members.
To maintain access to aquatic amenities, members will be able to use the Maxcy Gregg Pool for open swim beginning May 23 through the end of the renovation period. Members must present their Drew Wellness Center membership key fob for entry.
Officials noted that access does not include Lourie Center water aerobics classes held at Maxcy Gregg Pool.
City leaders said they appreciate members’ patience as improvements are made, adding the upgrades are intended to keep the pool a high-quality community amenity for years to come.
