MyFitnessPal has acquired the AI-powered nutrition tracking app Cal AI as part of its strategy to expand digital tools for health and fitness management. The transaction follows MyFitnessPal’s earlier purchase of the meal-planning app Intent and its recent integration with ChatGPT Health. The companies said the two platforms serve different but complementary user groups.

MyFitnessPal provides a long-established nutrition tracking platform supported by one of the largest food databases, while Cal AI offers an AI-first interface aimed at users focused on fitness performance and simplified tracking. Mike Fisher, Chief Executive Officer of MyFitnessPal, stated, “People come to nutrition with different goals and different levels of experience, and they need tools that meet them where they are. With Cal AI in our portfolio, we’re not just expanding our reach, we’re investing in the idea that no single product can serve every consumer.”

Cal AI will continue operating independently while benefiting from additional product development and marketing investment from MyFitnessPal. Fisher added, “We’ve been incredibly impressed with Cal AI’s speed, agility, and what they’ve built. Bringing that energy and innovation into our portfolio makes both brands stronger.” The app was created by students and has grown rapidly, generating more than $40 million in sales during the past 12 months. Zach Yadegari, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Cal AI, said they built Cal AI while still in their high school classrooms and grew it into one of the fastest-growing apps in its category, adding, “It exceeded all expectations.”
