While the world is battling the various effects of the West Asia crisis, a new COVID-19 variant has been reportedly spreading in the USA. It was apparently detected in the nasal swabs of a handful of travellers, in patients, and in samples of airplane wastewater. The World Health Organisation has classified it as BA.3.2, aka Cicada. Certain reports also indicate that it has been detected across the USA. The virus is a descendant of Omicron and is currently being closely monitored by the healthcare community, though it is not a threat at the moment. It can evade immunity and generate a large number of mutations, according to researchers. Here’s everything else you need to know.
What is BA.3.2 COVID variant
It is a variant that is among the most mutated Omicron descendants of COVID-19. Along with the US, it has also been detected in Australia and Europe. It was initially detected in South Africa two years ago, as per reports. Currently, the variant has not led to increased hospitalisations or other adverse effects.

What are its symptoms?
The symptoms of this COVID variant are similar to those of Omicron but are mild in vaccinated individuals. However, some researchers believe vaccines may not be as effective against it. Here are the common symptoms:
a) Mild fever
b) Cough
c) Exhaution
d) Headache
e) Sore throat
f) Runny nose
g) Rashes in some people
h) Night sweats
i) Loss of smell and taste
How to stay safe?
The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention advocates the same precautions against COVID-19 as those effective against this variant. Wearing masks, ensuring hygiene, and getting booster shots and COVID tests can be done following the guidance of your healthcare provider.
