It’s been over six years since COVID-19 was first declared a national emergency, now health officials are beginning to monitor a new, heavily-mutated variant, known as “Cicada.” The variant, which has spread to two dozen states, including California, has more than 70 mutations in its spike proteins compared to recent strains, which has some experts wondering if the strain is resistant to vaccines or antibodies.
