If you find yourself craving sweets all day or constantly reaching for foods like French fries, pasta, rice, or other carbs, it’s not necessarily because you have a sweet tooth or unhealthy habits. Your body may be signaling a much more concerning digestive issue.
That’s the warning from one of TikTok’s best‑known nutrition experts: Blanca Martín. The nutritionist links these cravings – along with excessive sleepiness, difficulty concentrating, and even headaches – to a possible intestinal candida infection.
What is intestinal candidiasis
Intestinal candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by an overgrowth of yeast from the Candida genus in the digestive tract. Although this fungus naturally exists in the body, an imbalance in the microbiota can allow it to multiply uncontrollably, leading to bloating, gas, irregular bowel movements, fatigue, anal itching, or dizziness.
A high‑sugar diet is one of the factors that can trigger this type of candida overgrowth, but it’s not the only one. Excessive antibiotic use, a weakened immune system, hormonal changes, and regular consumption of alcohol or tobacco can also contribute to its development.
The recommended medical approach is to see a doctor as soon as these symptoms appear. Healthcare professionals typically prescribe antifungal treatments such as fluconazole or nystatin. They may also recommend diets that eliminate all sugars, yeast, alcohol, and dairy, depriving the fungus of the nutrients it needs to continue multiplying. Finally, probiotics help restore healthy bacteria in the digestive system, bringing the microbiota back into balance.
