Spring Break
is the season of sunshine, travel, and endless photos. Whether
you’re heading to the beach, exploring a new city, or relaxing
poolside, it’s also the time when your skin faces some of the
year’s biggest stressors: UV exposure, dehydration, travel fatigue,
and changing climates.
To help you
protect your glow while enjoying the season, we spoke with
Aesthetic Nurse Injector and Laser Specialist Elizabeth
Schwartz from Kian Aesthetic Institute about the best ways
to prepare your skin before, during, and after Spring Break!

Pre-Trip Prep: Start With a Healthy
Canvas
Before
packing your bags, your skin deserves a little preparation.
Treatments that focus on hydration and gentle resurfacing can help
create a smooth, radiant base for vacation photos. Light treatments
like hydrating facials, mild chemical peels, and skin-refining
lasers are often popular leading up to travel and events. However,
timing matters. Many procedures require a few weeks to settle
before you’re ready for sun exposure.
ES: “Spring
Break skin is all about that healthy, hydrated glow, and prepping
your skin ahead of travel is everything. I always recommend
allowing at least two weeks of healing after skin treatments like
lasers or microneedling before any sun exposure. In the days
leading up to your trip, focus on hydration; think nourishing masks
and gentle treatments to boost moisture and support your skin
barrier. I also always travel with hypochlorous acid spray to mist
my face on travel days or hot, sunny days, and even spritz on my
hat or anything that needs a quick refresh. It’s such an easy way
to keep skin calm, clean, and blemish-free. I also recommend
avoiding retinols, strong toners, and exfoliating acids leading up
to a trip when you know you’ll have increased sun exposure, as they
can make the skin more sensitive.”
In general,
experts recommend scheduling any treatments at least 1–2 weeks
before departure, allowing skin time to calm and fully glow.
Protecting Your Skin Under the Spring Break
Sun
Beach days
and pool parties mean longer sun exposure than usual. While
sunscreen is essential, many people still underestimate how quickly
UV damage can occur, especially near water, where light reflects
back onto the skin. Daily sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher,
reapplication every two hours, and protective accessories like hats
and sunglasses are key.
ES: “One of
the most common mistakes I see on vacation is relying on a single
morning application of sunscreen and assuming it will last all day,
especially around water, where UV exposure is intensified by
reflection. I always remind my clients to reapply every 2–3 hours.
I love using a tinted mineral SPF! Pairing this with a high-quality
Vitamin C antioxidant each morning helps defend against free
radical damage, while simple habits like wearing a wide-brim hat
and staying well-hydrated go a long way in preserving your skin’s
health and glow.”
A consistent
skincare routine, even on vacation, also helps maintain your skin
barrier and prevent irritation from saltwater, chlorine, and
heat.
Vacation Skin Survival Kit
Packing smart
skincare products can make a huge difference while traveling.
Instead of bringing your entire routine, focus on a few essentials
that keep skin hydrated and protected. Spring Break skincare
staples may include:
–
Broad-spectrum SPF
– Gentle
cleanser
– Hydrating
serum (such as hyaluronic acid)
– Lightweight
moisturizer
– Lip balm
with SPF
– After-sun
soothing gel or cream
ES: “When I’m
packing for a trip, I keep it simple with a few tried-and-true
essentials that keep my skin protected and glowing without
over-complicating my routine. I love a high-quality Vitamin C
serum. Alastin’s C-radical Defense Serum is one of my favorites,
for that extra antioxidant protection and brightness. For daily sun
protection, I always reach for a tinted mineral SPF like Alastin
HydraTint; it gives the prettiest glow while keeping your skin
protected. And don’t forget your lips! Colorescience’s tinted lip
SPF is such a must. I also always pack a good bronzer and a
warm-toned blush, even though my face never gets as much sun as my
body, I love matching that bronzed, sun-kissed vibe. For evening
skin, I also love mixing a few drops of my favorite foundation into
a hyaluronic acid serum for a quick, dewy, skin-like finish. It’s
all about hydrated, glowy, effortless skin.”
These simple
items help prevent dryness, breakouts, and sun stress, common
issues during travel.

Post-Vacation Skin Reset
After a week
in the sun, many people notice dullness, congestion, or uneven
tone. This is a normal response to environmental exposure and
dehydration. A post-vacation reset can help restore your skin’s
balance. Treatments like hydrating facials, gentle laser therapies,
or light exfoliation may help renew the complexion.
ES: “After
sun exposure, I always focus on calming and deeply rehydrating the
skin. One of my favorite post-sun rituals is drinking plenty of
water, using a soothing sheet mask, especially one I’ve chilled in
the refrigerator for an extra cooling effect, or a CO₂lift mask,
which is a medical-grade jelly mask that helps hyperoxygenate the
skin and expedite recovery. I also layer hydrating serums with
nourishing creams to restore the skin barrier. It’s all about
replenishing moisture, reducing inflammation, and bringing your
skin back to a healthy, radiant baseline.”
It’s also
important to rehydrate both inside and out — drinking plenty of
water and returning to your full skincare routine.
Confidence Is The Best Spring Break
Glow
At the end of
the day, the goal of aesthetic treatments and skincare isn’t
perfection, it’s confidence. Healthy, cared-for skin helps you feel
comfortable in your own glow, whether you’re relaxing on the beach
or capturing memories with friends.
ES: “Feeling
confident in your own skin is truly the best kind of glow. When
your skin is happy and taken care of, you just feel more like
yourself and that energy is beautiful. It’s not about perfection,
it’s about embracing your natural beauty, having fun, and letting
your inner glow shine through in the most effortless, radiant
way.”
Spring Break
may only last a week, but the habits you build — protecting,
hydrating, and respecting your skin — can keep that glow going all
year long!
