A woman trainer sustained serious injuries after getting stabbed at a gym in Parassala on Monday. The assailant later allegedly attempted suicide by consuming rat poison.
The police identified the victim as Kavya, who worked at the gym in Plamoottukada, near Parassala. She suffered stab injuries to her chest and the back of her head. The incident occurred at around 10 a.m.
According to the police, the accused, Ashwanth, a native of Parassala, arrived at the gym on a two-wheeler. He entered the premises and attacked Kavya with a sharp weapon when no one was present inside.
Kavya was later found lying in a pool of blood by a group of political workers who had come to the gym as part of election campaign activities. They immediately alerted the police and arranged for an ambulance, which shifted her to a nearby hospital. Admitted to the intensive care unit, she is undergoing treatment for serious injuries.
The police took Ashwanth into custody from the gym premises. During questioning, he reportedly told the police that he had consumed rat poison in an attempt to take his own life. He was subsequently shifted to the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital for treatment.
The Parassala police have launched an investigation to ascertain the motive behind the attack, including any prior enmity between the accused and the victim.
