MIDLAND, Mich. (WJRT) – Three Greater Midland facilities will receive new fitness equipment for youth athletics and recreation through a grant from the Kiwassee Kiwanis Foundation and Midland Kiwanis Foundation.

The foundations awarded a $4,919 grant for three projects, with installation anticipated this summer. The grant will fund a climbing wall at Greater Midland North Family Center for toddlers through elementary-school-age kids to develop motor skills, strength and confidence during classes and drop-in play time.

A carpet-bonded foam mat will be installed at Greater Midland Community Center to support safe practice for the middle school athletics cheer team. Tumbling mats will be added at the Community Center, North, and Coleman Family Centers to expand safe activity spaces for early childhood education and youth sports programs.

Greater Midland utilized the Service Club Alliance to connect with potential funders for this grant request. The Service Club Alliance, an effort of the Midland Area Community Foundation, is a partnership between Midland area service clubs that allows community organizations who support Midland County residents to submit grant requests through joint applications.

“We’re grateful to the Kiwassee Kiwanis and Midland Kiwanis Foundations for investing in Midland County’s young people, helping us give them safe and fun ways to thrive physically and socially,” Conquest said.

Andrea Conquest, executive director for Coleman and North Family Centers, recommended the Service Club Alliance as a resource for nonprofits looking to make an impact in the community.
