Some of south Broward’s Planet Fitness gyms — known for being beginner-friendly and carrying “lunk alarms” — have changed ownership.

Planet Fitness locations previously operated by Grand Fitness Partners, a portfolio company backed by California-based private equity firm HGGC, have been sold to Flynn Group. The deal was announced Tuesday, March 31.

Grand Fitness Partners, founded in 2010 and headquartered in Coral Springs, operated 98 Planet Fitness clubs nationwide.

Flynn Group, also based in California, is one of the largest franchise operators in the country, managing major restaurant brands such as Applebee’s, Taco Bell and Panera Bread.

According to Flynn Group’s media relations team, the acquisition includes 24 Planet Fitness locations in Florida.

That includes two in Pembroke Pines (14802 Pines Blvd. and 9930 Johnson St.) and one in Miramar (12531 Miramar Parkway).

The Flynn Group media relations team told the Pembroke Pines News on April 2 that there would be “no changes at this time” to the gym’s operations.

“Since HGGC partnered with Grand Fitness Partners in 2021, the company has grown meaningfully through a combination of new club openings and strategic acquisitions,” HGGC said in a news release.

“We believe the company is well-positioned for continued success as part of Flynn Group and within a fitness category that continues to benefit from today’s evolving wellness trends.”
