The Empties Edit: Why I Re-Up On This Tatcha Youth Restoring Cream

Composite by India Espy-Jones

This may not show up on an allergy test, but as someone who has lived in my body for well-over 30 years at this point, I know for a fact I’m allergic to winter. Every year, as summer fades into fall, and the wretched cold weather season approaches, my skin goes from supple, plump, and vibrant, to dry and flaky. It’s gross.

To remedy this life-threatening allergy (yeah, I’m dramatic. So what?), I usually run off to the Caribbean for at least a month to absorb as much humidity and sun as I can before I have to return to the arctic. This year, however, I was subjected to months upon months of winter sufferation. Every day and night, I’d do my regular skincare routine, apply my moisturizer, then look in the mirror a few hours later and it’s like I may as well have just hung my face up in front of my radiator. Dry, dry, dry.

And, just because it’s spring now doesn’t mean that just goes away. I tried one moisturizer after the next, and nothing seemed to quench my skin as much as I needed, until I started using Tatcha’s The Longevity Youth Restoring Cream. Its lightweight, jelly-like texture would make you think it wouldn’t get the job done. But, baby! My skin has never felt so good.

This moisturizer feels like it’s giving my face a big hug. The cream melts down into my skin once it makes contact with my body heat, which creates a moisturizing cocoon that leaves me glowy from morning to night, then into the next morning.

Ingredients like the brand’s signature Okinawa Cellescence Complex helps restore youthfulness to the skin, while nonapeptide-1 supports ceramides and gives skin a plump look. Meanwhile, it’s the bio-fermented hyaluronic acid that keeps the skin ultra-hydrated season to season. All I need is one jar (and maybe a few extra as back up) to keep my skin happy all winter long. It’s a cream I’ll forever re-up on.
