NBC10 shared today a criminal complaint with more information regarding the stabbing at the Planet Fitness in Wyncote on April 2.
On April 3, Cheltenham police announced that Davier Massey, 28, was arrested a short distance from the gym by responding officers. The victim, an employee of Planet Fitness, suffered multiple stab wounds and was transported to an area trauma center for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
According to NBC10, Massey had asked two employees for the contact information of the gym’s manager on April 1. After being told they didn’t know, he reportedly tapped one of them on the chest and said, “Meet me outside.”
Investigators said the employee walked away after a brief exchange of words and Massey left the gym while stating, “I’ll see you.” The employee then contacted the gym’s manager and was sent home for the night.
On April 2, Massey returned to the Planet Fitness’ front counter and searched for the gym’s manager to complain about an outstanding balance on his bill. The employee who had interacted with Massey the previous day recognized him and reported it to his manager, who told Massey that he could not help him and that he shouldn’t be at the gym, NBC10 said.
Massey allegedly tried to walk behind the manager’s counter, at which point the employee stood up to stop him. The manager then put up his arm to intervene while Massey continued walking toward the employee, who punched Massey in the face repeatedly.
Police said the two men were then separated and Massey walked out of the gym. Arriving officers were unable to locate Massey, who returned a third time to the Planet Fitness about 30 minutes later. He approached the employee while brandishing a knife, which he used to stab the employee in the chest. The employee tried to defend himself and the two men went to the ground where Massey stabbed him again in the side and upper arm, NBC10 said.
Massey dropped the knife and a bystander kicked the weapon away before more bystanders arrived and pulled the two men apart. Massey walked out of the gym and bystanders made a tourniquet to control the employee’s bleeding while multiple people called 911.
An arriving officer found Massey at a store near the Planet Fitness and took him to the hospital before placing him in police custody.
Massey is currently being held in the Montgomery County Prison after his bail was denied, NBC10 said.
