MusiCares is accepting responses for its sixth annual Wellness in Music Survey now through April 17, The survey – which is open to individuals earning income in the music industry who are 18 and older – is described as “a critical, year-over-year temperature check on the health, financial stability and overall well-being of music professionals across the United States.”
Feedback from the survey helps inform MusiCares’ programs and services.
MusiCares is a nonprofit charity founded by the Recording Academy in 1989 that offers a safety net of critical health and welfare services to folks in the music community in three key areas: Mental Health & Addiction Recovery Services, Health Services, and Human Services including support for basic living expenses like rent, utilities, car payments and insurance premiums in times of hardship.
Since its founding MusiCares has provided more than $135 million in direct assistance to music professionals, including distributing over $17 million in support last year alone for year-round services and disaster relief efforts.
Last year a record of nearly 3,200 music professionals participated in the Wellness in Music Survey, with an announcement from the nonprofit noting that the “findings reinforced what many already feel: financial instability, inconsistent access to health care, and the demands of touring continue to shape daily life for music people. The data also pointed to ongoing mental health challenges across the community, underscoring the need for continued, industry-specific support.”
Survey Topics include Mental Health, Financial Wellness, Addiction, Insurance, and Diversity and Inclusion.
Following the survey’s close, a report from MusiCares will be publicly available.
