A 28-year-old man is facing a slew of charges after he allegedly stabbed a Planet Fitness employee in Philadelphia. The incident happened after the gym banned the suspect, identified as Davier Massey, because of unpaid membership, The Independent reported.
In a statement, the Cheltenham Township Police Department said that officers and EMS arrived at a Planet Fitness at 1000 South Easton Rd in the Wyncote section of Cheltenham Township on April 2 after they received a report of a stabbing.
Authorities said that they found a victim with multiple stab wounds, and he was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The responding Officers ultimately arrested Massey a short distance away.
“Preliminary investigation determined that the victim is an employee of Planet Fitness and was stabbed during an altercation with a person who had previously been banned from the business,” the statement said.

Police also said that though the gym had banned Massey, he returned the next day on two occasions and caused a disturbance, The Independent reported. Massey and the employee got into a physical altercation when he returned the second time, and the suspect repeatedly stabbed the victim.
Massey has since been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, and possession of an instrument of crime. The suspect, who has been denied bail, faces additional charges of making terroristic threats, criminal mischief, harassment, and disorderly conduct.
“We are saddened by the incident that took place at our Cheltenham location,” Planet Fitness said in a statement.
“Our thoughts are with the team member as they recover. We appreciate local law enforcement’s quick action, and the franchise owner is fully supporting them in their investigation.”
