LEONARDTOWN, Md. — What began as a life-altering injury has grown into a mission to transform how a community moves, heals and lives.

On April 11, Vida Flow & Wellness yoga studio will open its doors in Leonardtown, offering more than just a place to stretch, but a space built on education, resilience and a deeply personal journey.

“I love yoga, fitness, and health, but more than anything, I love sharing knowledge,” said owner Vida Garcia in an interview with The BayNet. “Vida Flow & Wellness was created to be one place where our community can learn to care for their mind and body through yoga, pilates, fitness, breathwork, Qigong, meditation and nutrition. A true wellness center, not just a yoga studio.”

A Journey Shaped By Setback

Garcia’s path to opening Vida Flow & Wellness was not born in a studio, but in recovery.

With decades of experience as a chiropractic assistant and personal trainer, Garcia had seen countless injuries. But in 2010, everything changed.

A serious car accident left her with a herniated neck injury, broken ribs and a months-long concussion, forcing her to step away from the active life she loved.

“I was devastated,” she said.

It was a simple recommendation — to try yoga — that shifted everything.

“Yoga taught me to stop guarding my injuries and instead feel them, accept them and move forward. I stopped being a victim and found a new love.”

That transformation now lives at the heart of Vida Flow & Wellness.

More Than Movement — A Focus On Education

Unlike traditional studios, Vida Flow & Wellness emphasizes understanding the “why” behind every movement.

“Every class focuses on form, breath and the why behind every movement; not just going through the motions,” Garcia explained.

The studio offers a wide range of classes, including Modern Yoga, Yin Yoga, Yoga Sculpt, Pilates and Hot Power Yoga, along with unique offerings like Shaolin Qigong, led by what Garcia says is the only instructor of its kind in the region.

“At Vida Flow & Wellness, every class is an opportunity to learn something new about yourself.”

A Mission Beyond The Mat

For Garcia, the goal extends far beyond the studio walls.

“My goal is simple: keep our community moving, and moving well,” she said.

She points to everyday movements — bending, lifting, even brushing your teeth — as the moments where injuries often occur.

“If we can take the same awareness we bring to our mat … and carry it into our daily lives, we protect ourselves around the clock.”

It’s this philosophy — mindful movement as a lifestyle — that she hopes will leave a lasting impact across St. Mary’s County.

Wellness, Redefined

Garcia challenges the idea that wellness is a single solution.

“Wellness, to me, has never been one thing. It is the combination of proper nutrition, movement, strength, breath, sleep and mindfulness all working together,” she said.

She emphasizes that wellness is personal and evolving, not a quick fix.

“We are not perfect. We are not meant to be. We are meant to keep trying and that is enough.”

Welcoming Beginners — And Everyone In Between

For those hesitant to step into a studio for the first time, Garcia offers reassurance.

“Just showing up is already an accomplishment,” she said. “You don’t need flexibility. You don’t need experience. You just need to show up. We’ll take care of the rest.”

Beginner-friendly options like Curious Yogi and Pilates Fundamentals are designed to make that first step approachable and judgment-free.
