The Laredo Public Health Department is inviting the community to take part in its inaugural Laredo Wellness Games this weekend, featuring an obstacle run designed for all in partnership with the Laredo Parks & Recreation Department and local gym Bodify.

The department announced Thursday that the event will move forward despite a forecast of gloomy weather. The games are scheduled for Saturday morning.

Organizers say the Laredo Wellness Games are built around inclusion, offering a space where residents of all fitness levels and abilities can participate. Whether training for a marathon, trying something new for the first time or seeking a slower pace due to a disability, the event is open to everyone.

The event also serves as a kickoff to Public Health Week and launches a broader spring and summer initiative, the Mayor’s Healthy Neighborhood Challenge.

The 5K course spans just over three miles and includes 24 obstacles, such as rope climbs, tubes, possum crawls and tilted walls. The challenge is open to all skill levels and includes an ADA-centered space for participants with disabilities.

Up to 400 racers are expected to participate, and community members are encouraged to attend as spectators and cheer on participants.

Packet pickup is scheduled Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the Laredo Public Health Department.
