CADILLAC — During the COVID-19 pandemic a few years ago, Nick Lietaert had a lot of time on his hands and began thinking about ways to optimize his health.
With the uncertainty and fear surrounding the pandemic at the time, Lietaert focused his energies on researching holistic wellness products and techniques.
After purchasing the former Altered Tattoo parlor at 820 S Mitchell St. and obtaining a special use permit to operate a short-term rental in the upper floor apartment, Leitaert got started on opening a wellness store in the bottom floor.
Leitaert began operating Elm Wellness Studios in September and on Friday, held the official grand opening and ribbon cutting for the business.
Elm Wellness Studios offers a selection of products, including clean energy drinks, social tonics, supplements for gut and brain health, and much more.
The business also offers massage therapy, red light therapy, a movement room that can be rented out for private sessions, contrast therapy using cold plunge and sauna, and wellness classes.
Leitaert said the science behind techniques like contrast therapy is placing the body into temperature extremes to activate and accelerate biological immune response and cellular production.
“And it just feels amazing,” Leitaert said. “You get a huge dopamine boost and feeling of complete euphoria afterward.”
Offering the Cadillac area this and other “biohack” techniques and products is the basis behind the business, which is open from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Leitaert said the upstairs apartment also is an extension of the business, as clients will be able to rent it out if they’re coming from outside the area.
