Roughly 356,140 units of different pills and supplements from multiple Vitaquest products are involved in the recall.
These products are all iron-fortified, but the recall isn’t explicitly focused on their chemical composition.
Instead, the recall is focused on the packaging these products come in, which fails to comply with federal standards set by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act.
All of the Vitaquest products involved were shipped in non-child-resistant packaging, which isn’t permissible given they’re iron-fortified products.

This poses “a risk of serious injury or death from poisoning if the contents are swallowed by young children” per the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission’s notice on the recall.
Iron can prove fatally poisonous to children, with 600mg of elemental iron proving to be a fatal dose per the National Library of Medicine.
“Indeed, iron is one of the lading causes of poisoning-related death in children,” it added in a 2003 study on the effects of iron poisoning on children.
Vitaquest brands involved in the recall include Arey, Bari Life, Bird&Be, Biote, Dr. Fuhrman, NuLife, HMR, Bariatric Pal, Noevir, Sakara, and Zenbean.
The company’s remedy is to have customers first store the supplements out of sight and reach of children, then reach out to them for info on getting a replacement top or child-proof container.
A statement posted to the company’s website explained that the voluntary recall was initiated “to protect young children from the risk that they will get access to the products and ingest more than directed.”
The company added that the packaging is the only issue with these products, and that they are safe to take otherwise.
The statement, posted on Wednesday, also confirmed that there have been no reported incidents or injuries as a result of the packaging defect.
Vitaquest did not immediately return The U.S. Sun’s request for comment.
