Planet Fitness is coming to the city of Trussville, filling a space that’s been vacant since 2024.
The gym will be located in the former Big Lots building at 5903 Trussville Crossings Parkway. The renovations will cost $1.7 million, according to reports from the Trussville Tribune.
“We’re excited to share that Planet Fitness will be moving into the former Big Lots location in the Walmart Shopping Center,” Mayor Ben Short announced on Facebook.

Alongside the new gym, Genghis Grill will be taking over the space previously occupied by The Palace, meaning major vacancies in the shopping center are now being filled after months of waiting.
While an official opening day has yet to be announced, Short said the project is already in progress.
“Permits have officially been pulled and work is already underway to transform what was once Big Lots into a new Planet Fitness,” Short said.
