HICKORY, N.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne track & field competed in their own Southside Power & Fitness Invitational this past weekend.
In the middle of day two of competition Lenoir-Rhyne honored their 18 seniors.
Day one featured some distance events, which means Lewis Budgen was on the track. Budgen set yet another school record, running an 8:47.28 in the sparsely run 3000 meters, then came back five minutes later to break 15 in the 5000 meters. Joining him in the 3000 meter record books was Zoila Sicilia, who’s 10:16.84 led a Bears squad that saw them take up all of the top five spots.
The women saw multiple first place finishes on day two. Patricija Nemanyte won the Heptathlon with 4584 points, winning the high jump and shot put portions of that event. Harper Ramsdale set a new PR to take home the pole vault title while Mackenzie Pringle was victorious in both the triple jump and 100m hurdles.
The men saw three first place finishes, with Liam Sutton starting things off with a 110m hurdles title. Indoor national runner-up Tobechukwu Nwokocha found his form in the long jump, leaping 7.61m (24-11.75) to almost certainly lock in his trip to outdoor nationals. The 4x400m team of Havyn Spain, Jordan Fennell, Corey Ragin Jr., and Khalid Hornsby won with a time of 3:12.95, the eighth best mark in program history.
