The difference between a good beauty day and a great one often comes down to the tools. And when you’re packing for a vacation, versatility is everything. Between limited suitcase space and unpredictable weather, every item you bring—whether it’s a hot tool, hair dryer, facial sculptor, or even a high-tech flosser—needs to work smarter, not harder. Think: compact designs, multitasking capabilities, and reliable performance that holds up from humid mornings to breezy nights out. Because when your itinerary is packed, the last thing you want is a routine that can’t keep up.

For our 2026 First Class Beauty Awards, ELLE’s beauty team, along with 24 staffers, put a range of beauty tools to the test, evaluating everything from heat settings and portability to overall ease of use and design. We looked for options that deliver salon-level results without the bulk, prioritizing designs that streamline your regimen rather than complicate it. From high-powered multi-stylers and LED gua shas to cryotherapy fans and travel cases that double as hot tool mats, each pick was assessed for how well it performs in real-life, on-the-go scenarios.

The result is a tightly curated selection of nine beauty tools that enhance your routine without adding unnecessary weight. Think of them as the small but mighty additions that elevate your getting-ready experience, wherever you land.

It’s no secret that heat tools can cause hair damage. However, this flat iron is equipped with infrared technology that protects strands as they’re styled. Our testers loved that it heats up quickly, has a digital temperature display, shuts off automatically, and includes a storage bag that doubles as a heat mat. Even the highest levels of humidity are no match for this micro-straightener. Featuring slim, ceramic-coated plates, the lightweight device makes smoothing down edges, baby hairs, bangs, and poofy roots a breeze. And if you’re looking to curl those hard-to-reach areas, “the outer barrel stays perfectly cool, so you won’t have to worry about burning your fingers while working close to the scalp,” one tester said. It’s the perfect tool for on-the-go touch-ups and easy styling alike.—EB

Crowded vanities are where hot tools—and your hands—take the most abuse. Kusshi’s solution offers a cooling chamber for your styling tools, featuring a lining that’s heat resistant up to 380 degrees. The oblong-shaped case is also equipped with zippered compartments for storing smaller items. Our tester said she’s “never traveling without this bag” because it flattens to hold several tools, combs, and brushes.—Nerisha Penrose

Our skin care-obsessed tester loved the product for its flat-surfaced de-puffing side, and even more for the fact that it “dispensed a soft mist that felt less wet and more like a spritz of morning dew.”—NP
