BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) – A community-wide push for better health is taking shape as the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Metropolitan Baton Rouge Chapter prepares to host its “Bee Healthy 100” Community Health Fair this weekend.
Set for April 25 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the F.G. Clark Activity Center, the event aims to bring together education, resources, and hands-on experiences focused on total wellness.
“This is about making sure our community has access to the tools they need to live healthier lives,” said Denage Piper. “We’re talking mental, physical, and even spiritual health all in one space.”
The free event will feature health screenings, nutrition education, and interactive resources for families, along with activities designed to keep attendees engaged throughout the day. Organizers said one of the highlights will be the “Carrying The Weight” mental health panel.
“We want people to feel seen and heard,” said Ni’Shawn Stovall. “That panel creates a safe space to talk about real issues that impact our community every day.”
The fair also adds a fun twist with JiggAerobics, a high-energy dance fitness session meant to get people moving while promoting healthy habits.
“Health doesn’t have to feel like a chore,” Stovall said. “It can be joyful, it can be uplifting, and it can bring people together.”
Families can also expect a kids’ corner, free food while supplies last, and giveaways throughout the event. Organizers said the goal is to remove barriers and make health resources accessible to everyone.
“We want people to leave informed, encouraged, and empowered,” Piper said. “If we can reach even one person and change the direction of their health journey, it’s worth it.”
