HI ,
You are welcome once again to my channel.
In today’s video, we discuss the role of vitamin C in the immune system or the functions of vitamin C in the immune system.

The first question someone will ask is
-What is the immune system?
The immune system is a group of cells that are different from each other that are responsible for defending your body against any foreign body that enters your body . Be it a bacterium, virus or fungi .

– For these group of cells to function properly, they need VITAMIN C.

– one of the agents that is being used for the treatment of patients infected with COVID -19 is VITAMIN C.

– vitamin C is a very high anti oxidant . There are free radicals in the body . What are free radicals? They are molecules with unpaired electrons , thereby making them unstable. Due to this instability, the cause damages to the body. So vitamin C goes in there to help stabilize them .

– anytime one is severely deficient in vitamin C , it results in a condition called scurvy, where one has a problem with the teeth.

– vitamin C is a water soluble nutrient. So it has a very low storage capacity. That means, unless you take vitamin C almost everyday, you are at risk of developing vitamin C deficiency within weeks . If you aren’t taking much vitamin C, it can result in a subclinical deficiency. That is when you will repeated infections. Flu , any common infection that that gets into your body, you get it because your defense system is weak. Your aren’t so deficient to the level of scurvy. That’s why everyone needs to be taking vitamin C. It is a must for everyone.

As far as the immune benefits are concerned;
1. Enhances antibodies ( fights pathogens)

2.Enhanced activities of B-Cells ( production of Antibodies)

3 . Enhanced the motility of neutrophils: (kill germs )

4. Enhances of T-cells

5. Enhances or stimulate the production of cytokines( responsible for cell signaling)!
