Ascorbic acid, or vitamin C, is found in the body as a by-product of vitamin B12 and in many other vitamins and minerals.
It is the vitamin your body needs to form blood vessels, cartilage, muscles and collagen in your bones. As an antioxidant, vitamin C can help protect your cells from the molecules that occur when the body breaks down food or is exposed to tobacco smoke or radiation. Vitamin C also helps our body absorb iron, which is needed for the production of red blood cells.
