Health Minister Greg Hunt has told Sky News after a person who attended the Black Lives Matter protests tested positive, Australians are “at risk of a significant infection outbreak”.

Victoria’s Chief Health Officer has revealed one of the state’s eight new cases of COVID-19 attended a Black Lives Matter protest at the weekend.

The health minister said this was “the result we feared” after warning potential protesters on Friday to reconsider attending the rallies.

Mr Hunt said the sheer scale of the marches which took place across the country means “you can’t adequately trace” the attendees.

“This sadly was a massive health risk which has now crystalised”.

He told Sky News host Peta Credlin there is “no immunity cloak despite a good cause” because the virus “knows no causes, boundaries, races, or creeds”.

“It is a virus that can kill”.
