I got a DM asking if vegans are immune to the coronavirus and the rumor seems to be growing, but how true are these statements? Let’s find out!
Masks, sanitizers, and soap can help reduce your chances of getting the coronavirus, but viruses are extremely small and can travel through air very quickly. If even one tiny virion enters your system, the only way to prevent yourself from getting the full throttle symptoms of the coronavirus in a vaccine-less world right now, is to have a strong immune system. And to have a strong immune system you need to optimize your health. So first we got to look at which diet is healthier, a balanced vegan diet or a balanced meat-eating diet?
Well we know you can be a healthy meat-eater in terms of living a long life if done right. There are plenty of meat-eaters that have lived long healthy lives. But what we must also consider is that we technically can be healthy cigarette smokers and live 100 years old as long as you compensate more than the average by exercising, sweating out toxins, getting plenty of sunlight, taking your vitamins, etc.
So naturally it begs the question, which is healthier for your immune system against the coronavirus: a healthy meat-eater or a healthy vegan diet?
Well a healthy vegan diet, which for this example i’ll assume is the raw vegan food pyramid, does not contain carcinogenic animal protein, casein, bad fat, and bad cholesterol in their diet, which is contained in all meat, even the organic, grass-fed, antibiotic free meat. Cutting down to moderate consumption is not good for you either for the same reason moderate consumption of cigarettes isn’t good for you objectively. Now this might not affect your health overall but when objective studies show that a substance is harmful and isn’t meant to be digested by the human body, then it is objectively harmful, even if it doesn’t seem to cause harm in the long run.
So in conclusion, this isn’t a black and white answer, a vegan diet can only help boost your innate immune system to allow your body to fight the virus before it takes over your body, but this is assuming you are a healthy vegan because if you’re a junk food vegan then your immune system isn’t optimized. In other words, no one is 100% immune, but you can increase your chances of fighting off viruses before they take over your body.
