CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Health care providers report another hidden concern showing up in this pandemic. They say it’s all due to the stress from COVID-19.
Doctors around the world are reporting more cases of shock hair loss due to pandemic stress. Apparently, some people shed large amounts of hair after a stressful event.
The Cleveland Clinic said hair shock comes from a number of kinds of stress, including physical emotional stressors, illness and tough financial times.
Hair can also fall out from a change in medications, anxiety levels and really any big shock to your system.
The team at the Advanced Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center said stress can push up to 50% of the hair on your head into a premature shedding phase. Some people recover but others need help.
“I was completely bald on top,” said Mark Lucas, the patient educator at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center. “I started out with the older technique. The older strip method where they cut a piece of skin out of the back of your neck, and you’re left with a scar. The newer approach, I’m quite jealous of. It’s a smart graph technology. We’re basically gently, with suction, we’re bringing the entire follicular unit out of the back of the head and the sides that are genetically programmed to never fall out. It’s a much easier way to get your hair back.”
The new laser cap to stimulate the head is basically increasing the blood flow to its follicles. You wear it for 30 minutes every other day.
If you’re noticing hair loss, make sure to talk to your doctor about vitamin deficiencies. Iron and thyroid are just a few that can lead the hair on your head falling out as well.
