A new study in Karnataka has found the spread of COVID-19 infection in the state is significantly higher in the symptomatic cases though asymptomatic persons too can transmit the virus. This was one of the major findings of the study, yet to be peer-reviewed and conducted by health experts from the Indian Institute of Public Health, Bengaluru, Public Health Foundation of India among others, and the Karnataka government’s State Surveillance Unit, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare. The main focus of the study is specifically on how the symptomatic persons have driven the transmission, and what it means for policy makers in countering the disease.
