Coronavirus Pandemic Update 99: “Long Haulers” – Lingering & Long-Term Symptoms After COVID-19:
My COVID-19 survival story playlist
I am a 38-year-old mother of a two-year-old boy. I work full-time from home and teach websites to non-technical people. I first noticed that I had a dry cough on August 24, 2020. There was smoke in the air from the wildfires so I didn’t think I was sick. I continued to wear my mask and work but by that Thursday I had a fever of 100.2 degrees so I got tested for COVID-19 the next day. On September 1st the health department called me and told me I tested positive for COVID-19. I was shocked because I thought I had a mild cold. I just had a cough and some nausea and muscle aches but the fever went away after the first week. I started to feel a lot better by the second week so I did a bunch of housework and overdid it. By Monday of the third week I had an incredible energy crash and wasn’t able to get out of bed. I spent the next few days calling mental health hot lines trying to figure out what my insurance covered. By Thursday I got an appointment with the doctor who originally tested me for COVID-19 and he diagnosed me with severe depression and told me I was experiencing long haulers symptoms. I was prescribed an antidepressant for the first time in my life and started speaking out about long haulers symptoms to educate myself and others about the physical and mental health symptoms related to COVID-19. This is a global pandemic and I have become one of the voices of the virus. Please wear a mask, reach out to your support groups and pray for all of us. We are in this together.
Note: I meant to say September instead of December.
