There are some advantages in continuing to categorise COVID-19 as a public health emergency, such as keeping the level of political will and international coordination seen in the global push to make available new vaccines. But some may argue that the world is at a stage of the pandemic where the cases are coming down, there are fewer deaths, and there is a high level of immunity among the world population.
