On May 11th, the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) officially expired after being renewed 13 times since January 20th, 2020. Given historically low COVID-19 deaths and hospitalizations, as well as many COVID-19 programs being integrated into public health processes, they felt that their was no longer a need for the PHE.
