IV vitamin drips are everywhere, but do they actually work or are they just expensive hype? As a UK-based doctor and pharmacist, I’ll break down the real science behind IV vitamin therapy.

In hospitals, IV drips are lifesaving for patients who can’t eat, absorb nutrients, or who are critically ill. But for healthy people, research shows they rarely offer extra benefits beyond what your gut and oral supplements already provide. A 2018 review in Current Nutrition Reports found no strong evidence that vitamin infusions improve immunity, boost skin health, or increase energy levels in people who are not deficient.

Your digestive system is designed to absorb nutrients efficiently. If your levels are already normal, excess vitamins are simply filtered by your kidneys and excreted in urine. On top of that, IV drips come with risks including infection, vein irritation, allergic reactions, and electrolyte imbalances. Incorrect dosing can even be dangerous.

This video explores the facts behind IV drips, why so many claims are misleading, and the real risks you should know before spending money on them.

IV vitamin drips, are they worth it? Let’s just see. Forget what I think. Let’s see what evidence says. Asalamaikum. My name is Dr. Nazad. I’m a medical doctor and a pharmacist based here in the UK. So, IV vitamin drips deliver vitamins and minerals directly into your bloodstream through a vein. In hospitals, we use it all day long, and it’s vital for people who cannot eat, cannot absorb nutrients, or who are dangerously unwell. But for your general healthy individuals walking the streets, evidence shows they rarely offer any benefit beyond what your gut can already do. A 2018 review in current nutrition reports found no strong evidence that vitamin infusions boost immunity, improve skin, or increase energy in people who are not deficient. Your digestive system is already designed to absorb nutrients efficiently from food and oral supplements. If your vitamin levels are normal, just logically adding extra amounts are simply going to be filtered out by your kidneys and excreted in the urine within a few hours of taking it. Many of the marketing claims for IV drips, they do concern me because they’re based on very small, lowquality studies or research in seriously ill patients. They’ve not been made for the general public. There’s also risks from having these IV drips. You’re going to increase your risk of infections at the injection site. You can have major vein irritation and there will be allergic reactions and electrolyte imbalances. Incorrect dosing can be very dangerous. I’ve seen some drips of £500, guys. It’s it’s it’s water in a bag. Drink some water. Stay hydrated. Have an electrolyte drink if you are dehydrated and you’ll feel pretty much the same. The drinks cost no more than a pound. These IV visin drips, honestly, I’ve seen some range from £100 to £500. Please save your money, okay? Don’t fall for the hype.
