The main vitamins produced by these microbes are from the B vitamin group and vitamin KB vitamins are essential for many processes in your body. For example, folate, also called vitamin B9, is made by gut bacteria and helps your cells produce DNA and repair themselves. This is important because your immune cells need to grow and divide quickly to fight off infections. Then there is vitamin B12 or cobalamin which is vital for making red blood cells and keeping your nervous system healthy. When your gut bacteria produce B12, it helps support your overall immune responses indirectly.
