How does the Immune System of the Eye Work?
[Music] did you know that your immune system can attack your eyes at any moment the eyes have a separate immune system known as an immune privilege site this is necessary to protect the eyes from potentially destructive immune reactions simply put your immune system doesn’t even know your eyes exist but in case of injuries or infections these protective mechanisms can be deved and your immune system will recognize the eye tissues unfortunately as foreign it will decide to attack the already sick eye that’s the best case scenario in the worst case the immune system will misjudge and attack the healthy eye as well completely depriving you of your vision this is called an autoimmune disease for the treatment of which immunosuppressive drugs are used so theoretically you could be treated by infecting yourself with AIDS but I do not recommend doing that
